How do
I create my own zkimmer site?
What if
I want zkimmer to do my portfolio for me?
It's really quite easy. All you need is basic skills in a page
layout program such as Microsoft Word or, better still, Adobe
InDesign.
- First ,get all your portfolio graphics together in one place
to begin the compiling of your main document. If you do not
already have your portfolio in digital photographic format then
any scanner or even digital camera can do an excellent job. for
a good effect in zkimmer you need graphic versions of your
portfolio that are at least 300 dots per inch in resolution. For
example most home scanners can save documents at 600 dpi which
is twice the resolution you need to make a stunning zkimmer
site.
- Take notes of specifically what page order you will want
your portfolio to be displayed in, or group portfolio pieces
together in folders so that they are added together as you build
your portfolio document.
- Next open your copy of MS Word and use the menu
File/Pagesetup to change your default page layout from profile
to landscape. Of course you can use a profile setting if the
majority of your portfolio is in profile layout. It is important
to choose the layout that will suit the majority of your
portfolio as zkimmer needs all the pages that are uploaded to it
to be the same identical size in width and height.
- Next choose menu view/print layout. This will enable you to
see your pages as you works on them.
- Next go to the menu format/background and select the color
background that will suit your portfolio. Black works well with
strong or vivid colors, white for pastels or black and white.
- Before adding your first picture you must enable the drawing
tools so that you can add captions to each page. To do this go
to the menu View/Toolbars/Drawing and a menu like this will
appear.
- Use the text box to place a caption where ever you want on
each page.
- Remember to start at PAGE 2 since you will need to produce a
title page for your portfolio. Good ideas for title pages are to
compile a mini collage of your portfolio on the main page or
pick the most recognizable work for the page with a title in
large type placed strategically so that people will be able to
read the portfolio title even if zoomed out to a very low
resolution while viewing zkimmer. Title size of at least 24
pixels or more is recommended.
- Next start adding your photos and creating more pages.
Resize them to fit comfortably on each page without overlapping
your caption text area.
- Once you are finished you will now have to produce a pdf of
your document. In the most recent editions of Microsoft Word,
the ability to export as a pdf is a standard feature. You are
safe to export using this standard option as long as the
standard settings have not been modified. For your reference a
setting of 600 dpi for text and 300dpi for graphics within the
pdf are optimal. If you are using an older version of Word then
you may need to download and use a PDF tool such as PDF Creator
which is
available here.
Tools like PDF Creator allow you to print your word document to
a PDF document that can then be uploaded to zkimmer for
publishing.
- Next once you are happy upload your document to zkimmer at
publish.htm. After you fill out the
form you will be given an upload page which will add your
document to the zkimmer production list which will build a
zkimmer site from your document. You will also receive a
confirmation email telling you that we have received your
document.
- After you are notified that your site is ready you can check
that it is working correctly. And once you are satisfied you can
pay for the SELF SERVE zkimmer option at
purchase.htm to permanently publish your site. You will have
21 days to make your decision after which your zkimmer site will
be removed from the zkimmer site if it has remained unpaid.
That's it. That's all there is to publishing with zkimmer.
This option is even easier. zkimmer offers two
types of services, the Pro service and the Premier service.
The Pro service is where you simply upload your
photos and caption text to us and we do the rest. We compile your
portfolio and then return it to you in low resolution for your
approval before publishing it to zkimmer.
The Premier service goes a lot further in that zkimmer will produce
an article about you and your art to be published with your
portfolio. It even includes a half day with a professional
photographer. However the Premier service is only available to
customers in the LA and Orange County regions.
